From October 7 to 17, 2014, Marco Middendorf and Markus Niehues from the Lauftreff Osterfeine participated in a torch relay, during which they ran 1800 km across Europe in 9 days with a torch in hand. The occasion was the 100th anniversary of Schönstatt, and each runner received a personal intention to reflect on during their leg. Almost 90 runners from 10 nations, including Argentina, Ecuador, and Brazil, took part in this unique event. The route led from Pompeii through Rome, across the Alps into Switzerland, and finally to Schönstatt, where they finished in front of nearly 10,000 people.
Highlights
- Special experiences included, among others, Mount Vesuvius, St. Peter's Square with the audience with the Pope, and the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
